Washington Street School Cares

Recently, we at Washington Street School launched the "Be A Buddy - Not a Bully" and "It's Cool to Care" initiatives. Both efforts are designed to encourage parents, staff, and students to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Over the course of the school year, we hope to celebrate the many wonderful and kind acts of our students, staff, and parents. This blog is a means towards that end. While the act of doing good is its own reward; kindness breeds kindness. Please help us recognize the many wonderful people who go above and beyond and truly make WSS a place where "It's Cool to Care."

  1. The WSS Halloween parade is a special tradition for many reasons. It was great to see our younger students happily marching as the older kids cheered them on. This year, I noticed many adult on-lookers who came to join in the fun. Numerous proud parents and grandparents were clicking their cameras trying to capture the excitement. There were some parents who no longer had children in our school, but still stopped by for a look. Recent, and not so recent, graduates participated in the clapping in the street. And even some retired teachers came to see their former students in the parade. How great it was to see a whole community come together on a beautiful fall day in the pure spirit of FUN!

  2. I was so excited when i got the letter in my sons folder from Dr Butera announcing the WSS Cares blog and stating that WSS Halloween parade was uploaded on this website. I could not attend the parade to cheer for my son and take pictures, so immediately I went on the website along with my son to relive the fun he had that day. I was lucky enough to see my sons happy face marching in the parade. Thank you for making this site.

  3. Congratulations on a great blog Dr. Butera! I'm so glad to see the school moving forward and using and modeling technology use for our children. What a great way for our children to learn about blogging by reading and participating in their own school blog! I look forward to many good blog postings, pictures and videos! You may want to add a Clustr Map (http://www.clustrmaps.com/) to the blog; the kids would get a kick out of seeing where in the world their "viewers" live. Keep up the good work! ~Anne Brusca
