Mrs. Drosman's 6th Grade Class Visits Orzac Center
My class recently went on a field trip to the Orzac Rehabilitation Center in Franklin Square. When we went to the Orzac Center, I think we really put a smile on the residents' faces. We played games like checkers, chess, tic-tac-toe and cards. When we visited the senior citizens, we could see how happy it made them feel that we were spending time with them. Going on the trip to the Orzac Center really brought out the best in all of us. Everyone was very kind to the residents and we had a great time! The senior citizens loved the crafts that we made with them so much that there wasn't a single craft left in the box. We made things like Thanksgiving door hangers, pumpkin scratch offs with a string, and we colored and made cards for the residents. Our class will visit five times throughout the school year. For the next trip, we are planning on bringing our instruments and playing holiday songs!

I had a fantastic time interacting with the elderly friends I made. I can't wait to go back.

The students in Mrs. Drosman's class should be so proud of themselves. The way they interacted with their new friends was a sight to behold. It was natural; it was heartfelt; and they made all of us at WSS so proud. I commend Mrs. Drosman for providing her students such a worthwhile and invaluable experience
ReplyDeleteWhat a great activity for all those involved!

ReplyDeletewow you guys rock helping the elderly and all that stuff
ReplyDeletei did this as a kid back in suffolk county, only we went to Pilgrim state during the holidays. the amount of joy that comes to the residents faces, coupled with the amount of pride and accomplishment in knowing you are helping out fellow human beings, makes this an incredible experience for all who participate. congrats mrs. drosman's class, on a job well done!
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the best trips that I ever went on. It was so unique and we had a great time.

It's really nice to see some of the students giving back to the community. I'm sure it was a wonderful learning experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. It's great to see that the children of the Franklin Square Schools are provided with great character building programs as well as strong academic programs.
ReplyDeleteHats off to Mrs. Drosman's entire class!
I was so honored that I was able to join Mrs. Drosman's class and visit the Orzac Center. My grandfather is a resident there and the joy on his face as he watched the band play was so wonderful. You truly made his holiday season and my family was so appreciative. Keep caring W.S.S! Kristin Rudolph
